Go to Rogers or Fido, they have a $50/yr plan or prepaid that gives like 200 minutes or so, so you only have to buy it for that one year for $50 and you can keep your phone number. You'd keep your number, but you'd have a deposit and credit check I'm sure. If your line is out of contract you could upgrade, but if you go buy another phone, like a smartphone, you'll have to change plans since smartphones require a data plan. In the end, you'll have your line and number and a new account for yourself after qualification.
